This year is set to be a decisive one for Indian boxing. With the upcoming World Championships and Asian Games in mind, the national boxing camp has gained momentum. At the National Boxing Academy in Patiala, boxers selected from across the country are working on refining their technique and fitness. This time, the camp is placing special emphasis on the changing strategy of modern boxing, prioritizing speed, footwork, and the ability to read an opponent's game.
According to the Boxing Federation of India, a total of 45 boxers are participating in the camp, including both male and female athletes. The camp is being led by an experienced foreign coach who was recently brought on board with the team. The coaching staff believes that international competition is now tougher than ever, and winning on strength alone is difficult. Therefore, an individual strategy is being prepared for each boxer at the camp, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses and working on improvements.
A senior boxer participating in the camp said the training approach this time is quite different from before. Where previously the focus was on long-distance running and weight training, now equal attention is being given to recovery and mental toughness. A team of yoga instructors, meditation experts, and nutritionists has also joined the boxers at the camp to ensure a balanced routine and prevent injuries.
The camp is considered even more important for women boxers, as Indian women boxers have delivered excellent performances on the international stage in recent years. Separate sessions are being organized for the women's category at the camp, with special technical drills based on their weight classes. Coaches believe competition in women's boxing is rising rapidly, and continuous innovation is essential for international success.
During the camp, practice bouts are also being held among the boxers to assess their actual capabilities. Video recordings of these bouts are being analyzed to eliminate technical flaws in each boxer. The coaching team says such analysis helps boxers better understand their game and make better decisions under pressure during competitions.
A federation official said several international competitions are scheduled in the coming months, and boxers will be selected for them based on performance. Boxers who perform well at the camp will be given priority in upcoming competitions. He also said the government and the federation are committed to providing all possible support to boxers, whether it be training facilities, medical assistance, or international exposure.
Boxing experts believe there is no dearth of talent among Indian boxers, but consistent performance at the international level requires further development of mental toughness and strategic understanding. Special attention is being given to these aspects at this camp. It is hoped that in the upcoming competitions, Indian boxers will perform to their full potential and bring glory to the country.
Fitness and nutrition are also being closely monitored at the camp. Separate diet plans have been prepared for each boxer, taking into account their weight class and training intensity. The medical team is conducting regular health checks to prevent any problems before they arise.
This time, along with foreign experts, former international boxers have also been included in the national camp to inspire young athletes with their experiences. In these sessions, boxers are being told about experiences and strategies during major competitions.
Overall, the national boxing camp is moving in a new direction, giving equal importance to technique, strategy, and mental toughness. The performance of Indian boxers in upcoming competitions will determine how effective this new strategy proves to be. Sports fans hope that Indian boxers will once again make a strong presence felt on the international stage.
